Wilderness Skills Overnight
Camp Info

We look forward to sharing a week full of incredible adventures and dynamic learning with your child!

Wilderness Skills campers will work together to set up a base camp with everything needed for a comfortable five-day outdoor experience. The group will forage for edible plants, shoot bows and arrows, make traps, track mammals, go on night hikes, play awareness games, collect shellfish and crabs and so much more!

The educational approach of this program encourages creative thinking rather than providing constant answers. The teaching staff stimulates the growth of problem-solving skills, and stretches the students into greater self-sufficiency while honoring different learning styles.  To learn more about our teaching ideology and methods, check out Jon Young's book, Coyote's Guide to Connecting with Nature and Richard Louv's book, Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children From Nature Deficit Disorder.

Medical Information: Since camp will occur in a semi-remote area and is for an extended period (with the overnight aspect), it is vitally imperative that we have a complete understanding of your child’s medical needs and history. Please be thorough when sharing this info during the registration process and feel free to share any concerns.

  • Medication: Please place medication in a ziploc bag labeled with name and instructions. Camp instructors will keep the medication safe and will make sure it is taken according to directions.

What to Bring:

  • Shorts

  • Long pants

  • Short and long-sleeve shirt

  • Extra pairs of socks & underwear

  • Raingear (tops and bottom)

  • Hiking shoes or sneakers

  • Water shoes or flip-flops

  • Sun hat and/or warm hat

  • Warm clothing for evening

  • Swimsuit

  • Towel

  • Water Bottle

  • Mess kit (bowl, fork, spoon)

  • Headlamp or small flashlight

  • Backpack

  • Waterproof tent that your child knows how to set up (coordinating with other campers to share tents is encouraged)

  • Sleeping pad

  • Sleeping bag (synthetic is best as a damp cotton or down bag loses its effectiveness)

  • Sunscreen, insect repellant and any other toiletries your child may want

  • Optional: fixed blade knife, fishing gear

* Expect your child, and their clothes, to come home dirty! Whatever clothes you send should be able to get dirty, scramble over bark, wade through the creek, etc.

What NOT to bring:

  • Food, beverages, or snacks — all food will be provided, and snacks in the tent can cause unwelcome critter visitors

  • Electronics — leave all cellphones, ipads, music devices, etc. at home

  • Jewelry or valuables

Note: There will be the option for campers to set up their tents in a gendered or non-gendered area depending on their preference.
